No noticeable increase in signal

Postby Adam Ball on Mon Jan 04, 2010 9:13 pm

I had bought a DBSW-819 used about a year ago and used it all last year. Recently I got a new phone (Motorola Droid) which has the ability to easily view it's cell signal strength as dBm as opposed to just bars. Since it had this I decided to see what the amp does for the phone. What I found out is there is no noticeable increase. Sitting in my driveway with the amp turned off, the signal ranged from -66 to -68 dBm. With the amp turned on, the signal still ranged from -66 to -68 dBm. I moved the internal antenna around (always turning off the amp first) from the center of the top of the windshield, center of dash, and the center of roof between driver and passanger. The external antenna is mounted in the back right corner of the roof on a Chevy TrailBlazer, which is about 5 feet minimum behind the internal antenna. After this I went to a spot that gets weak cell signal to test. There with the amp turned off or on and the internal antenna in various spots the signal was always between -102 and -101 dBm.

Is there anything else that I can try? Or would it be best to send it in to get looked at?

Thanks

-Adam

No idea where you bought the amplifier or if it was even any good . DBSW819 was discontinued by Cyfre for the more powerful SVW819 . You could try your phone in an induction cradle.

But after that I am out of ideas.
