Can a signal be too strong?

Postby littlekites on Sun Jul 26, 2009 11:17 am

First, let me just say, for the benefit of anyone reading this to learn more about Maximum Signal, that when I had what I thought was a problem with my equipment last night and sent in a customer service note, they called me about two minutes later - 8:30 on a Sat. night! Now that's snappy customer service.

Now, on to my question. I'm not sure who I talked to last night, but when I couldn't get my equipment to work, they suggested Alltel/Verizon was working on my tower and that it wasn't an equipment problem. They were right; my signal without the kit is now at -85db with 45% signal strength and speed-wise without the amp and antenna, I'm getting just a bit under what I previously did while using them. Here's my question(s): Shouldn't I still be able to get even better speed using the amp and antenna? The signal strength with them hooked up is 100% with -51db. However, I can no longer connect while I have them hooked up, and I don't understand why. Can a signal be too strong? It makes no sense to me that it can't connect, all the equipment does is boost that signal.

My current speed: 1.30Mb/s down 0.34Mb/s up

Can you even get significantly higher speeds than this with Alltel/Verizon?

Still sounds like they are working on the tower . Be patient this whole merger has caused problems for users everywhere .See the forums below for lots of people feeling the same pain

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/alltelw

It could be fixed in days but it also can take weeks . There is a lot involved in merging networks and unfortunately no easy solutions. No such thing as too strong a signal . The amplifier will cut to lower power if it is too strong for the tower

All we can guarantee is best signal possible . 90% of the time this will give you the highest upload and download speeds and the lowest latency .
However there are many factors involved that effect speed that we have no control over have . These factors are
1) How many T1 lines are run to the tower you are connected to
2) How many other users are connected to that tower
3) How are those other users using or abusing the available bandwidth
4) Overall Network traffic with your carrier

We just like to be honest up front we are not miracle workers but we do sell the best equipment to help you achieve your goals
